Trish Hirschkorn is a felt maker, living in Fredericton, Canada, with a unique perspective of blending the line between felting and millinery. She specializes in nuno felt (combining merino wool and silk fabric), and pays homage to designs of the past while using modern techniques and up-cycled materials. Her millinery education involves travel to Ireland, Toronto and Tennessee. She has won several international awards in the millinery world, and in 2016 her “Australiana” hat won the Best Overall Hat at the Millinery Meet-up in Gatlinburg Tennessee. She is inspired by the 1920’s, but inspiration also comes from the up-cycled fabrics themselves, the details that are already in the silk garments or the feeling that the garment conveys..
I make hats for the everyday Canadian women. I make head-turning, feminine, and uplifting hats. My goal is to help Canadian women enjoy the long winters by putting something stylish, yet sensible on their heads and encouraging them to get outside!Bright colors, florals, sequins and beads - I have been designing hats for ten years in the Fredericton area and have won several international awards for my unique work. Each piece is one of a kind, wearable art, as I up-cycle the silk fabric that comes from second-hand garments.
This year I’ve stayed “close to home” choosing not to do annual shows in other provinces, or the USA.Taking a year off, to refresh, gain new skills, and relax into the winter season myself!
