Originally from Ontario Cynthia graduated from the Visual Arts program at the University of Western Ontario and later from the University of Nebraska at Kearney with a master’s degree in visual arts education.
After graduating from the university of Western Ontario, Cynthia began her teaching career by day and artistic career as a portrait artist by night. She soon found the demands for drawings overwhelming; the whole process became too restrictive and boring – her imagination was wasting away. It was at this time that she met her then husband and together they moved from the Toronto area to Bathurst, New Brunswick where she now lives.
New Brunswick was an immediate source of inspiration for Cynthia. Everyday scenes that are routine to most, Cynthia sees as magical. She sees the ocean, the sky and the land of Atlantic Canada working together as partners, each affecting the other in an almost comical way. that stirs her imagination. Cynthia’s paintings have captured the province’s natural powers through vivid use of colour, playful horizon lines and exaggerated shapes. By eliminating unnecessary detail and looking at the main idea of a landscape and its possibilities, she creates paintings stir our imagination.
“How lucky we are to live in New Brunswick, the Atlantic Ocean in front of us, and the forest behind us.We have a front row seat to the magical powers of the water, land and sky. Our presence here is dictated by the powers of these three elements. The landscape is unspoiled by industry, it is rugged yet beautiful. New Brunswick truly is an artist’s dream.”
