It is nature that Réjean Roy paints in thick, energetic brushstrokes: the nature of tree branches and watery reflections, of pine forests, wetlands and swirling skies. This nature surrounds the artist in his home in Acadian New Brunswick and his subjects are found leading from the door of his house out into the wilderness. In his canoe and on foot, Réjean allows nature to present the subject matter he then records and takes back to his studio to work into his simple and powerful canvases. But the artist can only work from his sketches and photographs for a few days before he must again refresh his artistic eyes with true life by returning to the scene in nature. These paintings perfectly capture the wonders of solitude and the balance that is found only in nature.

Réjean first developed his natural artistic talents in university while studying biology when his professor noticed some sketches and asked Réjean to contribute illustrations to a textbook. Since then he has explored various artistic endeavours, and ventured into a range of media from graphite, charcoal and watercolour to etching and even sculpture. In the last seven years, Réjean has focused almost exclusively on oil paint on canvas and it is his distinctive style in this medium that has gathered an excited following. Réjean's paintings are in collections across North America, in Europe and Asia .

Deeply connected to nature, Réjean has been quietly active in promoting environmental sensitivity as a Coordinator for the Chaleur Bay Watershed Group. At the same time, his relationship with the land is born out in other ways – like building his own canoe. These interests and beliefs, like his art, are a result of his respect and love for New Brunswick 's nature.

We are most fortunate in New Brunswick to have such a wealth of elegant and unspoiled nature and to have an artist who uses oil on canvas and printmaking to explore and preserve the interests and majesty of this land.
