Born Peggy Ellis in 1935 in Prince Edward Island, she studied under Alex Colville, Lawren Harris and Ted Pulford at Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB during the 1950's. She majored in portrait and landscape painting. She was a founding member of the Society of Co-operating artists in Toronto in the 1950's.

She has lived in Toronto, Ontario; London, England; and Charlottetown PEI before moving to Saint John, NB with her family of two sons and daughters.

She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions since 1975. She has been the winner of the Rothman Prize for her work and received the Saint John Art Club Acquisition Purchase Award. In 2007 she received a documentation grant from the NB Arts Board. She lives in Saint John and has been painting the Saint John String Quartet and New Brunswick Symphony for many years.

Peggy's work is included in the collection of the Canada Council Art Bank, the Charlottetown Confederation Centre, the New Brunswick Museum, the NB Art Bank, Mount Allison University, UNB, UPEI, the Imperial Theatre and many important corporate and private collections.
