James Wilson has been a professional photographer in New Brunswick for more than 30 years. His entire family history has embraced photography. Their business dates back to the 1800's. James works from his heritage home and studio in the beautiful river valley of Hampton, New Brunswick. His work has been exhibited in numerous one-man shows and been part of many group exhibits, some of which have toured to galleries in many parts of Canada. James uses infrared photography when he desires a more surreal look to his art. His panoramic landscapes and classical nudes are sought after by collectors . His "Social Studies" series continues to grow and is a compelling documentation of the lives and people of the early 21st century. James, unlike most photographers of today, does it all - the capturing of just the perfect moment, the black and white development, the colour pigment printing on archival paper and the framing to exacting museum standards. James' photographs have been purchased for permanent collections by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, The New Brunswick Art Bank, Kodak Canada, Irving Oil Ltd., Aliant, the City of Saint John, Rogers Cable Ltd., the Royal Bank, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and other corporate and private collectors in Canada, the United States and Europe. James was selected as a finalist for the 2008 Strathbutler Award. The book "Portraits" of New Brunswick Painters by Peter J. Larocque and Peter Buckland was published in 2009 and features the photography of James Wilson. |
