Born and raised on the Miramichi, Jonathan grew up on the river and in the woods - fishing and picking fiddleheads for money as a child, later running a saw with his father as a trail cutter during summer vacations. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design from 1993 – 1997, graduating with a Degree in Fine Art. Jonathan remained in Halifax for a time working as a set painter and continuing to exhibit his work. Jonathan has lived on two separate occasions in Toronto, working as an art technician and painting in a shared studio at Artscape downtown. His work has been seen in group exhibitions in Halifax and Toronto including at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition for several years. Since 2005 he has maintained an artist studio in Miramichi. He has been moving in the same direction artistically since with a passion for documentation. He has been exploring his landscape through journals, photography, drawing, painting and abstractly creating a three dimensional aesthetically enriched environment involving his off-the-gird cabin and its surroundings. |
