SINGLE BEAUTY
ARABESQUE
Over the past several years, I have continued to be inspired by the beauty of the floral form. Up close and intimate, I admire the elegant lines and graceful curves, often in endless shades of white and cream. This collection has reached further into my interest of creating more atmosphere and mystery...pushing the boundaries between what is there and not there. I have a particular love for lost edges and the visual depth which results from subtle changes in value and depth of colour. Flowers remind me of dancers, music and classical design... and the word Arabesque embraces each of these sentiments. Joanne Hunt, 2012 DEEP WITHIN ARTIST'S STATEMENT I find great pleasure and relaxation in the time I spend painting. I am visually attracted to calm and quiet atmospheres which I try to convey in my still life compositions. My work is all about taking the time to stop and look…to appreciate the little everyday moments around you. Each work usually starts with one object which I particularly admire and then I build upon its strengths by adding other elements and evaluating many different angles of light. Using a fairly limited palette, I work in many layers - accentuating certain details and subduing others…blurring the edges and simplifying shapes. I know a piece is complete when it takes on its own dimension and depth, beyond the limitation of surface and frame. I am particularly inspired by the works of Georges de La Tour, Vermeer, Andrew Wyeth, Yousuf Karsh and Mary Pratt. As a child, my first painting influence was my great grandmother, Lillian Ettinger, who lived to be 101. With quiet and humble passion, she lovingly painted landscape.
