ARTIST STATEMENT

During the past six years my work has been focused on developing a balance between the natural tendency of clay while maintaining a conscious control over its form and function. I use a variety of techniques including extrusion and hand-building. Occasionally I combine these (the latter) with shapes that I have turned on the potter's wheel. The wide range of depth and texture in my glazes reflect the organic appearance of my forms. It is my intention to sustain the essence of the pre-fired fluid quality of the clay while capturing the personality and simplicity of each piece I create.
