NEW RIVER (SEA GLASS) What is Gallery Wrap? Gallery wrap is a term used when the canvas is stretched around a wooden frame (stretcher) and secured in the back as to not be visible. The sides of the stretcher are prepared and primed in the same manner as the face and then it is either painted a solid colour or the painting continues on the sides of the painting. This method of stretching and finishing allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting. |

UNTITLED V I have always been fascinated with the changing earth – with shifts in the earth plates, or other geological events leaving their marks and altering the layout of the land. These marks are like souvenirs of events passed … and likewise the layering of colour and marks of brushstoke are representations of past events or moments that together shape the outcome and form the image. Like a quilt made by a coming together of fabrics – each with their own history or story to tell, souvenirs of time gone by. Anna Cameron, 2011

Anna Cameron had shifted focus in her work, abandoning the representational and allowing for colour and brushstroke to construct the painting. It was the balance of these elements that set the mood or tone of the painting, as well as the rhythm or movement or the simple quiet of the painting. In the Garden series, Anna Cameron continues her exploration of colour and brushstroke. Through the thoughtful layering of pigment, she builds her canvases to create mood, depth and vivacity. Garden as subject provides inspiration for colour, change and movement and her paintings of sparrows represent witness to the evolving landscape. Anna Cameron studied painting at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, graduating in 1997. |
